Coverage of live meetings and usage of keyword alerts

Learn how to start live transcription, manage and review alert keywords, and configure email settings.

Written by Nikhil Ajjarapu

Use Live Meetings to follow a supported public livestream with its video and a near-real-time transcript. You can search the transcript, take notes, ask questions in chat, and use Live Alerts to find and review moments that match your keywords.

Please note that currently you have to separately submit meetings once they are complete (once the livestream is over) to produce a Rescript summary memo with speaker identification.

Start a live meeting

  1. Open Hearings & Meetings from the Rescript sidebar.

  2. If needed, select Supported sources to check whether Rescript supports the meeting’s public livestream source.

  3. Select New meeting or find a hearing via the Congressional Calendar

  4. Paste the public livestream URL into Link to meeting, then select Retrieve.

Rescript automatically checks the source and the video’s status for you:

  • If the video is live, Rescript opens the live meeting form.

  • If the video has ended, Rescript directs you to the meeting upload workflow.

  • If the event has not started, return when the livestream is active.

  1. On Transcribe your Livestream, enter a title and confirm the URL.

  2. Under Keywords, use the switches to move any of your active keyword groups into Monitor for this meeting. Groups you do not select remain under Not monitoring.

  3. If you have the relevant permissions, select Add keywords to create a reusable keyword group.

The above image shows the process of creating/editing your keywords. You can configure them manually and with assistance from an AI agent (shown on the left).

  1. To receive email updates for this meeting, turn on Email alerts after selecting at least one keyword group. The form shows your current email schedule; use the settings button to change that schedule.

  2. Select Start transcription.

The meeting first appears with an Initializing status. When transcription begins, its status changes to Live. Use the Live sessions filter on Hearings & Meetings to find live-session records.

Follow the live transcript

Open the meeting title to view the stream and transcript. The transcript arrives in short segments and may be slightly behind the video.

  • Use Search transcript to find words or phrases in the transcript.

  • Turn on Follow Video to keep the transcript synchronized with the video. Turn it off when you want to scroll and review another section.

  • Select a timestamp to move the player to that moment when the livestream source supports seeking.

  • Add notes in the meeting workspace. You can insert the current timestamp into your notes.

  • Use the floating chat to ask questions about the live transcript collected so far.

Playback controls vary by livestream source. Some sources do not support seeking or replaying earlier moments.

Choose and edit alert keywords

Select Alerts, then open the Keywords tab.

  • On contains keyword groups currently watching this meeting.

  • Off contains available keyword groups that are not currently watching this meeting.

  • Use a row’s switch to move its keywords between On and Off.

  • Select Edit to change a keyword group you own or can manage.

  • Select Add Keywords to create a reusable keyword group and turn it on for this meeting.

The On and Off selections are shared meeting settings. A change made by one person applies to everyone who can access that meeting.

In the Add Keywords or Edit Keywords panel, describe what you want to catch. Rescript can draft a name and keyword queries, then remember follow-up instructions while the panel remains open. You can ask it to rename the alert, add or remove keywords, make the queries narrower or broader, or consolidate them.

Review and edit the name and queries directly before saving. AI suggestions change only the open draft; they are not applied until you select Add Keywords or Save Keywords.

Deleting a keyword group stops it across all ongoing live meetings where it is enabled. Past alert events and completed meetings remain available.

Review alert events

Open Alerts, then select Events. The Events count is the total number of alert matches for the meeting. The count and dot on the meeting’s Alerts button represent unreviewed alerts.

  • Unreviewed opens by default.

  • Reviewed shows alerts someone has marked reviewed.

  • All shows both states.

  • Each event shows its timestamp, keyword-group name, and the surrounding transcript text with matching words highlighted.

  • Hover over a row or move keyboard focus into it to reveal View in transcript and Mark reviewed. On a touch screen, these actions remain visible.

  • Select the row or View in transcript to jump to that moment. Opening or viewing an alert does not mark it reviewed.

  • Select Mark all as reviewed to clear the current unreviewed queue. In the Reviewed view, this action becomes Mark all as unreviewed.

Alert review state is shared. When one person marks an event reviewed or unreviewed, everyone with access to the same meeting sees that state.

Receive Live Alert emails

Use Email off or Email on · [schedule] in the Alerts header to control alert emails for this meeting. This setting is personal: turning email on or off does not change another person’s subscription.

Select the settings gear to open Notifications. Your Live alert email frequency applies to every live meeting where you have email alerts enabled. Available schedules are:

  • Every 30 minutes

  • Every hour

  • Every 2 hours

  • When the meeting ends

Turning emails on starts with new alert activity; Rescript does not send alerts from the period while emails were off. Each alert email links back to the relevant meeting moment.

Rescript sends at most 10 Live Alert emails for one meeting. When that limit is reached, the control changes to Email cap reached.

When the livestream ends

Rescript stops live transcription when the livestream ends. The live-session record remains available under Live sessions with a Complete status, together with its transcript, notes, and alert history.

To generate a speaker-identified transcript and memo, submit the completed recording through the meeting upload workflow.

Troubleshooting

  • The meeting opens the upload workflow: Confirm that the source is currently live. Completed recordings use meeting upload.

  • The meeting stays on Initializing: Wait a minute or two, then refresh Hearings & Meetings. Confirm that the stream is still live, public, and has audio.

  • No transcript appears: Confirm the source is listed under Supported sources and that the video is publicly accessible.

  • No alert events appear: Open Keywords and confirm at least one keyword group is under On. New matches appear only after a keyword group is active.

  • A timestamp does not move the video: Seeking depends on the livestream source and may not be available.

  • Live Alerts or Add Keywords is missing: Live Alerts must be enabled for your workspace, and keyword creation or editing may depend on your permissions.
